Candle Care
Every candle should be treated with care so it can perform at its best. You can do so with these 3 simple steps:
Make sure to trim your wick 1/4 inch before every burn
If the wick is left without trimming then mushrooming and more soot can occur.
Mushrooming happens when you have carbon build up which then leads to soot. This is when the inside of your jar starts to become black. If you don’t know what mushrooming looks like, it’s when the top of the wick starts to flair out causing a mushroom like shape. Mushrooming can interfere with the performance of the candle. If you light a mushroomed wick, it can cause unwanted popping and crackling. It can also cause a larger, unsteady flame which can cause the candle to burn at a faster rate. Black soot doesn’t interfere with the candles performance but makes the jar less pretty. If soot occurs you can wipe it off from the inside of the jar.
For best results burn your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time
A standard burn time for candles is 4 hours. If burned longer than the standard time it can cause faster carbon build up. Which means mushrooming and soot. It can also cause the jar to get too hot and can become dangerous. If you don’t know what mushrooming and soot is, then check out the first step.
Last but not least burn your candle on a level, fire resistant surface
This one is a no brainer but if left on a non-level surface it could possibly tip over and cause issues.
